"Saving American Democracy"
In support of the Saving American Democracy Amendment (SJ Res 33 and HJ Res 90), Let it be known that the Kendall County Democratic Central Committee has adopted this resolution for the following reasons:
- Whereas, Recent Supreme Court rulings have made it possible for transnational corporations and others with extreme amounts of wealth to have an undue influence on our government,
- Whereas, The average citizen has been marginalized and lost an equal voice in their government,
- Whereas, America will not abide losing its middle class identity and ethic,
- Therefore, The Kendall County Democratic Central Committee hereby endorses and promotes an amendment to the United States Constitution to return corporations and other private entities to their rightful place of serving society, and to restore the dignity and independence of our elected representatives.

Edward Bugg Endorsed by Daily Herald
Two strong candidates are vying to represent Ward 9: Edward Bugg, a real estate manager, and Marge Linnane, who works in community development for the village of Glendale Heights. Linnane's experience would be valuable, but Bugg seems uniquely qualified for the council post. He recognizes the occasional disconnect between the city council and his ward, and he has been active in trying to breathe life into the strip malls along Eola Road. He did so with the South Eola Road Art Project Committee, which worked with local schools to provide artwork that was placed in empty storefronts. That helped spruce up the shuttered businesses and sparked more community interest in spreading the word about the need to fill them. A nice community-based touch to improving the local economy.

Northern Illinois Jobs with Justice Event: Jan. 2nd.
The January veto session in Springfield will likely feature a vote on the topic of "pension reform." Prior to traveling to Springfield, my Representative, Linda Chapa LaVia has agreed to co-host with Northern Illinois Jobs with Justice an event in Aurora on the evening of Jan 2nd. Please RSVP here. Representative Elaine Nekritz, the sponsor of HB 6258 will be on hand to answer questions and hopefully take our suggestions for pension funding solutions. Join us in the Aurora East High School Auditorium (enter through door #5): 500 Tomcat Ln., Aurora, IL from 6:30-8:30 p.m. (ample parking available).
NIJwJ's panel of economists and education experts will present ideas to address Illinois' revenue problem, fund pensions, and establish a more equitable education system for Illinois students. Please RSVP, show up, and support our agenda of equality and prosperity! Experts believe that the bill is unconstitutional. We are concerned about the following troubling components:
1) A "cost shift" would ultimately shift pension funding responsibilities back to local property taxpayers, resulting in higher local taxes.
2) Teachers and professors are being asked to pay more 2% more of their salary into their retirement system.
3) Retired teachers will lose part of their cost of living adjustment (COLA)
Again, showing up to this event and telling your friends to come will help stop this agenda of austerity.
Justice and Solidarity,
John Laesch
