Happy New Year to all Democrats and independent thinkers,
Let’s face it, I doubt much that any Republicans/Tea Baggers will be reading this! 2010 will officially bring an end to the Dubya Decade. President Barack Obama has ushered in hope and change and though slow going, it’s happening. But there is so much to do; we Americans will be cleaning up for years, the mess that the previous administration left us.
So what can you do? Puh-lenty! Let’s start with the minimum:
Vote (Click here for voting info). It’s your right – people have died to ensure that Americans continue to have the ability to vote. And it’s especially important to vote this year. The primary holds many qualified county board candidates (
Click here for Candidate Info) as well as Dennis Grosskopf for State Representative and Leslie Juby for State Senate. And Congressman Bill Foster would appreciate your vote, too!
Show your neighbors that you’re active. Put some candidates’ signs in your yard, write a Letter to the Editor urging people to get out and vote/support your candidate.
Contribute. The Kendall County Democratic Central Committee (KCDCC) and local candidates operate on shoestring budgets so even $10 will help us/them move toward our goals.
Walk your neighborhood. Contact the Kendall County Democratic Party or the candidates of your choice for literature and drop it at your neighbor’s doors. Isn’t more exercise on your list of resolutions? Here a way to do it!
Get active in your town/county. Attend township/school board/city council meetings, Democratic Party meetings (
Click here for Candidate Rally info), go to meet-and-greets, check out county board meetings – observe what is happening and speak out for yourself, your family, your neighbors. Most of the folks running these meetings want input. They also want volunteers to help plan and operate the various functions they are obligated to do. This is the essence of the Democratic Process. I tell people that they can’t complain about politics unless they’re willing to do something about its problems.
Run for office. Anyone can do this, all you need to be is motivated, informed and willing to put in the effort. There are people who can help you be a candidate. The KCDCC is chock full of folks who have run for office, hold office, and/or have been part of political campaigns.
So, while this is a good list of how you can be active, it’s not all you can do. But doing nothing doesn’t help anyone. Vote and get active!
On behalf of the Kendall County Democratic Central Committee I want to wish all our fellow democrats a safe and happy holiday and a prosperous New Year.
Chuck Sutcliff
Chairman, Kendall County Democratic Central Committee
