Occupy Chicago Organizer Attends KCDCC Meeting
Ryan Metz, one of the lead organizers of Occupy Chicago, spoke at the Kendall County Democrats' monthly meeting Monday, Dec. 19th, at the Montgomery County Police Department, 10 Civic Center Ave., Montgomery, IL. Ryan gave a poignant and informative talk about the Occupy movement and answered questions. It was a great opportunity for everyone who attended to learn more about Occupy Chicago. In his speech Ryan noted “The Occupy Movement is inspired by the idea that monied interests, be they large corporations or the very rich, have accrued so much political power that the rest of us don’t have a voice in how we are governed; that the system of governance in this country was developed by and serves them, and that this influence has led to historic levels of economic inequality, inequity, and suffering among our people. 2011 Holiday Party
The Kendall County Democratic Central Committee and Kendall County Democratic Women hosted their annual holiday party on December 16th in Yorkville. Local Democrats and candidates enjoyed the festivities and fun, including the traditional White Elephant gift exchange. Candidates celebrating the holiday season at this festive and fun event included Dennis Anderson (14th Congressional District), Juan Thomas (11th Congressional District), Jeremy Ly (75th District State Representative), Amy Cesich (Kendall County Board District 1) and Evie Givens (Kendall County Board District 2).

Linda Holmes Campaign Event
Kendall County Democrats were happy participate in a reception kicking off the re-election campaign for State Senator Linda Holmes. The Kendall Dems joined State Representative Linda Chapa LaVia, Aurora Mayor Tom Weisner, Montgomery Mayor Marilyn Michelini, The Honorable Bill Foster, our host committee, Kane County Democratic Chair Mark Guethle, Kendall County Democratic Chair Chuck Sutcliff, Naperville Democrats Township Chair Dianne McGuire, and Katie Arko, Mavis Bates, Sandy Benson, Linda Cole, Drew Elisico, Mike & Sandy Funkey, Dick Hawks, Max McGee, Kim Presbrey, Eric Patrick, and Arlene Shoemaker. Democrats had a great time watching the Chicago Bears take on the Denver Broncos at this event on Sunday, December 11th, at Ballydoyle Irish Pub & Restaurant in Aurora. October KCDCC Meeting and Information on the Dem Leads Group
Guests attending the October KCDCC monthly meeting included many local candidates, and a guest speaker from the Kendall County Dems Leads Group. The Kendall County Democratic Central Committee (KCDCC) monthly meetings are typically held the 4th Monday of each month at the Lakewood Creek Clubhouse in Montgomery, at 2799 Oakmont Drive. The November and December meetings have been rescheduled to the 3rd Mondays, 11/21 and 12/19, due to the holidays. The normal meeting schedule will resume on 1/23/2012. Notary services will be available at the 11/21 meeting for petitions. Meetings are open to the public and all Democrats are encouraged to attend.

14th District Candidate
Members of the Kendall County Democratic Central Committee (KCDCC) met with Congressional Candidate for the 14th District, Dennis Anderson, on October 28th in Oswego to discuss his run for Congress.
Mr. Anderson believes strongly that public service, whether as an occupation or in a volunteer capacity, is an honorable undertaking, and he will serve as a member of Congress with the same strong commitment to the Illinois’ 14th Congressional District he made to the people of his community over the years. As the election season proceeds, the KCDCC website will add more candidate information. Blue State Brews
On October 22nd the Kendall County Democrats hosted a social event in Oswego to provide an opportunity for voters to meet and talk with Democratic candidates in an informal setting. The event featured a tasting of locally brewed beers and root beer and an appetizer buffet.
Candidates brought petitions to collect signatures required to get on the ballot, and maps of all the Kendall County Districts and notary services were available. Democrats were excited about having so many very worthy candidates for the upcoming primary election. The well attended event was enjoyed by all and the Kendall County Dems intend to host another similar event in the future, as well as a pre-election candidate rally. Occupy Chicago
Kendall County Democratic Women President Chrisi Vineyard and Mildred McNeal attended the “Occupy Chicago” Rally, Monday, October 10th, in the financial district in downtown Chicago. The Occupy Chicago protest has camped out for more than two weeks in the financial district along LaSalle Street to protest corporate greed; and to let their voices be heard in solidarity, chanting, “We are the 99%”.

The focus was on three areas: Unemployment, Mortgage Foreclosures, and Chicago Teachers Union on insufficient school funding. Occupy Chicago has adopted official demands: Repeal the Bush tax cuts for the rich and prosecute "Wall Street Criminals”, reform of election campaign finance rules, increased regulatory power for the Securities and Exchange Commission, and enactment of the so-called Buffett Rule.

Diversity EventThe Kendall County Democratic Women would like to thank all those who participated in the October 5th Celebrate Diversity event. Featured speaker, Dr. Amaal Tokars, Assistant Executive Director of the Kendall County Health Department gave a poignant speech urging attendees to embrace differences and stay away from dichotomies, and move toward understanding.
Oswego Trustee Gail Johnson spoke about the privilege she and others take for granted. “I have never been a victim of racism, homophobia, or anti-Semitism, and I want that kind of life for everyone,” Johnson said. Many other Speakers shared personal stories, giving attendees a new perspective on the everyday struggles of others. Juan Thomas, Candidate for IL Congress District 11, spoke of his experiences as an African American male. He said, "I would like to see America more accepting of average blacks, Hispanics, and other minorities, and not just “exceptional” minorities like President Barack Obama." The KCDW would like to thank all the speakers for their courage and very personal stories. The hope is to help bring the community together and achieve acceptance of all. Candidates Attend KCDCC MeetingCandidates seeking nominations for Congress, Senate, and State Representative attended the Kendall County Democratic Central Committee monthly meeting on September 26th in Montgomery. Congressional Pig RoastKendall County Democratic Central Committee members attended the 14th Congressional District Pig Roast, hosted by the Illinois 14th Congressional Democrats and the Kane County Democrats, with Chairman Mark Guethle, on Sunday August 28th in St. Charles. Special guests included Bill Foster and committee chairmen from throughout the 14th District. Great food and good weather was enjoyed by those who attended.
Bill Foster is running for State Representative in the newly redistricted 11th district and spoke about bringing a unified Democratic presence back to the area. "Stop the Beltway" Picnic
Kendall County Democratic Central Committee members attended the 10th Annual "Stop the Beltway Bridge to Nowhere Family Picnic" on Sunday, August 28th at Marvel Davis Farm in Big Rock. There was music by the wonderful Grasslands Quartet and up-to-date information on the status of the Prairie Parkway (often referred to as the "Trashway"). The focus was on alternatives to the Prairie Parkway -- major improvements to Illinois Route 47, and the Kendall County project for an Eldamain Road bridge across the Fox River that parallels the Prairie Parkway route at only one-sixth the price tag. Special Thanks goes to Marvel Davis for once again donating the use of the beautiful Davis farm and facilities.

Governor's DayThe Kendall County Democrats met with Governor Pat Quinn, Lt. Governor Sheila Simon, and Democratic county chairmen at the Governor’s Mansion in Springfield on August 16th. Kendall County Democratic Central Committee Chairman Chuck Sutcliff, Kendall County Democratic Women President Chrisi Vineyard, and Kendall 5 Democratic Precinct Committeeman Al Duggan attended the annual Summer BBQ for Democratic County Chairmen and enjoyed an evening of visiting with Governor Quinn and networking with county leaders. “We had a great time,” said Sutcliff. “The Governor and Lt. Governor walked among us chatting and posing for photos. They are very personable and were willing to hear what we had to say.”
After the BBQ, the Kendall Democrats co-hosted a reception at the Crown Hotel in Springfield. Chairmen Mark Guethle (Kane), Bob Pieckert (DuPage), Terry Link (Lake), Dennis Grosskopf (Will), Mike Bissett (McHenry), and Kendall Chairman Sutcliff invited fellow Democrats, candidates, and elected officials to meet with a “collar county coalition” designed to present a unified group of Democratic Chairmen and the issues unique to the people surrounding Cook County and Chicago. Bill Foster, former Congressman and candidate for US Representative for the 11th Congressional District, also attended the reception and spoke about his campaign to return to Washington, DC. Arpaio Protest
This weekend the Kendall County Republican Central Committee hosted their annual family picnic. Instead of inviting a speaker that unifies and motivates, they chose Arizona's Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio. Arpaio is well known for his stance on illegal immigration and inhumane treatment of prisoners, and has lost countless racial profiling lawsuits. The Kendall County Democrats, along with union members, college students, and concerned citizens, gathered to show their unity and solidarity against racism and the inhumane treatment of prisoners. “It wasn’t about Sheriff Joe,” noted Kendall County Democratic Women President Chrisi Vineyard. “It’s the message it sends, that this behavior is ok, or that the people in Kendall County tolerate this kind of bigotry.” Kendall County Democratic Director of Media Relations Amy Cesich stated, “We are disappointed the KCRCC chose Arpaio to represent their ‘Family values’ at an annual family picnic. This can’t possibly be the message they wish to portray and support.”

Montgomery Fest Parade
The Kendall County Democrats and Democratic Women invite friends and supporters to join them in the Montgomery parade on Sunday, August 14. Line up starts at 12:30 PM (meet at Lyon Metal Products at 420 N. Main Street); Parade starts at 1:00 PM. The larger the crowd, the better. The summer parades are always a lot of fun and the Montgomery Fest Parade is no exception. Not only that, there is always time after the parade to enjoy the festivities. Candy and goodies to give to the kids along with bags and baskets to carry in will be available or may be brought. The float will feature music and participants may carry signs and flags. Make sure to wear your blue to show your Democratic pride.
You will see police directing traffic on Main St. Parking may be an issue later in the day so you may want to get there a little early to find adequate parking. There will also be opportunities to assist with preparation for the parade. If you decide at the last minute to attend, no problem. When you see the float with the great music, treats, and united Democrats all in blue, just stop by. |
Jobs for Justice
On Friday July 8th at the Bank of America on Indian Trail in Aurora, local Kendall County Democrats, including Mike O’Connell and Chrisi Vineyard, spoke out about lack of action from Congress and showed support for the middle class working families. Northern Illinois Jobs with Justice hosted and organized the coalition that gathered and rallied with union workers, community groups, and struggling construction workers to respond to the Labor Department report and demand common sense action to deal with the unemployment crisis.
Activists spoke out about the Republican led Congress fighting to keep tax cuts in place for millionaires and billionaires in budget negotiations; while the economy is faltering and high unemployment continues. The group holds a rally/press conference on the first Friday of every month responding to the jobs report from the Labor Department, which has consistently shown the need for dramatic intervention on the part of Congress to ease the suffering of the millions of unemployed. The group is encouraging the President and Democrats to hold the line on protecting seniors and the most vulnerable in our society and resist cuts to important programs like Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. Bank of America was chosen because the multi-million dollar company used a series of tax loopholes to avoid paying 2010 taxes on over $4.4 billion in income. FACT... the same corporations that have been getting tax breaks have been laying off workers, not hiring. There is a "path to prosperity" that shares the burden of deficit reduction among all Americans. This means closing tax and regulation loopholes that unfairly benefit large corporations, ending the Bush-era tax cuts for the wealthiest 2 percent of Americans, and streamlining -- but not slashing -- federal programs that help keep working families out of poverty and invest in America’s future economic strength. Salute to Veterans
Friday, July 15th, the Kendall County Democrats attended the 4th Annual Kendall County Salute to Veterans fundraiser at the Kendall County Fairgrounds for Honor Flight Chicago, a non-profit organization that flies WWII veterans to Washington D.C. to visit the WWII Memorial.
KCDCC Media Relations Director, Amy Cesich, and KDCC Voter Participation Director, Mike O’Connell, each won one of the many gift baskets and prizes that were available for raffle. The event was hugely successful and a lot of fun. It was a great way to give thanks to many of Kendall County’s Veterans, have a delicious steak dinner, enjoy entertainment by The Legacy Girls, participate in the raffles, and--most of all--the chance to chow down with America’s heroes! Oswego PrairieFest 2011
 The Kendall County Democrats were honored to participate in Oswego's PrairieFest event on June 18 and 19.
They, along with the Kendall County Democratic Women (President Chrisi Vineyard), hosted an informational booth and marched in the parade. The KCDCC and KCDW enjoy supporting local events, and they were happy to share in the Oswego's annual festival tradition again.    |
4th of July Parade
Celebrating Independence day with Democratic pride, the Kendall County Democrats and Kendall County Democratic Women were proud to participate in this year's annual 4th of July Parade in Yorkville. Participants handed out candy and patriotic favors and enjoyed a great day. The Democrats thank all who helped out and joined in the fun.

Businessman and scientist Bill Foster attended the Kendall County Central Committee monthly meeting in June to rally support and discuss his campaign for Congress in the Illinois' 11th Congressional District which contains Aurora, Joliet, Lisle, Montgomery, and Naperville.

Affordable Healthcare Act AnniversaryKendall County Democratic Women President Chrisi Vineyard, Sandwich resident Marty Rudd, and area residents of Organize for America from 14th district, celebrated the one year anniversary of the signing of the Affordable Healthcare Act by President Barack Obama. They gathered in front of U.S. Congressman Randy Hultgren’s Geneva office on Tuesday, March 22, to share stories of how the law helped them obtain affordable and quality health care.

Planned Parenthood RallyChrisi Vineyard, Mike O'Connell, and Amy Cesich, along with about 150 people, showed up at Republican Congressman Randy Hultgren’s Geneva office Monday on March 7, 2011. This rally was organized by Planned Parenthood, following a vote by the House of Representatives to stop its funding.
We are urging our U.S. Senators to stand up for women and make sure that funding for preventive women’s health care is in the budget. Planned Parenthood provides access for women to receive the basic health care they need, which includes information on preventing unintended pregnancies. Planned Parenthood provides a wide range of safe, reliable health care — and more than 90 percent is preventive, primary care, which helps prevent unintended pregnancies through contraception, reduce the spread of sexually transmitted infections through testing and treatment, and screen for cervical and other cancers. "Prom Plus More" Fashion and Art Show
The Kendall County Democratic Women, and President Chrisi Vineyard, are proud to support local businesses. Currently, they are supporting and inviting everyone to an eco-friendly fashion show featuring designer Tam O'Connell, of I Create It (http://tamcancreate.weebly.com/).
Tam is a designer who "upcycles" clothing. "Upcycling" is reworking fabrics and materials from what they already are into new and fashionable designs. The fashion show will showcase local students wearing re-purposed Prom and evening wear: "Prom Plus More". Donated prom and homecoming dresses will be "upcycled" to give those once-worn dresses another life! Local vendors will also participate, such as Art Unlimited, LLC (who will feature their "Memories - Prom Special") and Shaklee Distributor, Lori-Haff-Delancy will also be on hand to discuss all-natural products. Inauguration of Pat Quinn and Sheila Simon
Kendall County Democratic Central Committee Chairman Chuck Sutcliff, Treasurer Robyn Sutcliff, and Vice Chair of Voter Participation/GOTV Mike O'Connell joined Kendall County Democratic Women President Chrisi Vineyard, KCDW member Tam O'Connell, and Precinct Committeeperson Al Duggan at Governor Pat Quinn's and Lt. Governor Sheila Simon's Inauguration in Springfield on January 10, 2011. The two day trip was packed with events all around Springfield.
During the Inauguration, Pat Quinn spoke about his job being one of service. He honored the memories of local fallen military members. Chuck Sutcliff said, "The subject of veterans is important to Governor Quinn. He visits the families of slain servicemen and servicewomen and attends the funerals. The team of Quinn, Simon, Lisa Madigan, and Jesse White gives our state honest leadership, with integrity and a willingness to work for and look out for every Illinoisan. Quinn is willing to accept criticisms from his detractors and make the tough decisions, because he has the long run in mind. A couple of years from now, when we've returned to a fiscally sound state, people will realize that Quinn had to make difficult, but necessary, decisions."
Vineyard said, "Governor Quinn is an independent, accountable, trustworthy, and principled leader. He is down-to-earth. As he said, "One day a peacock, the next day a feather duster"." Vineyard continued, "I firmly believe if we all come together, we will accomplish our goals as one nation, to spur economic growth, curb ethical abuses, safely invest taxpayers' money, help parents send their kids to college, and promote the financial well-being of Illinois residents. We have to remain focused on clean energy alternatives, promote financial literacy, encourage economic development, attack corruption in Springfield, and create good paying, livable wage jobs right here in Illinois."

Governor Simon, Senator Richard Durbin, Senator Durbin's Chief of Staff, Attorney General Lisa Madigan, Senator Mark Kirk, and IDOT Secretary Gary Hannig regarding the City of Yorkville, where she represents the 3rd Ward. Robyn Sutcliff said, "I was inspired on Inaugural Day by the genuine message of service to the residents of Illinois from all newly elected Constitutional officers. "The integrity crisis is over," stated Governor Quinn. Considering the outcome of the last two Governors, this statement resonated with me as being the beginning of honest and responsible leadership for all residents of Illinois."
O'Connell echoed those sentiments, "I really appreciated when Governor Quinn said, "we will pay our bills, we will stabilize our budget, we will strengthen our economy". It was an important message of responsibility."
