Those are the words of then-House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill. His observations about New Orleans were published in the Daily Herald of Arlington Heights, Ill., just two days after the levees broke and Hurricane Katrina's floodwaters inundated the Crescent City.
The Coast Guard was still counting the dead and rescuing the living when Hastert dismissed New Orleans as unworthy of the massive amounts of federal dollars that obviously would be required to rebuild.
