Am I nuts or was the 10/11 Ledger-Sentinel article "Seven vie to succeed Hastert in Congress" inadequate?  I was really disappointed to see that candidate positions on issues were sporadically reported.  If issues are raised I want to see where each candidate stands - not talking points from their websites.

Are you really surprised?  I'm surprised they even included the Democratic candidates at all.  I'm more surprised the article didn't read something like "4 republicans vie for Haster's seat - contest to be determined during the Feb 5 2008 primary".....

I really enjoyed how they didn't print any of the positions of the Republican candidates....is there something they don't want us to know??????

Just the week before ( Oct 4th Edition) Rob Reed submitted a letter that contained the following statement, " We are in the middle of an active election season which features seven candidates running for (Hastert's) seat in Congress. Our district has not seen a competative election like this in over two decades."

It appears thto me that the editors were not ready to start covering this just yet, but were prompted by the letter to say something about it - so they simply pulled quotes from assorted websites. I'll agree they could have done better. If it wasn't for Rob's letter, we may not have gotten the coverage we did.

Well the article did appear to be thrown together at the last minute! I was disturbed to see some hot button issues like abortion and the war in Iraq mentioned for some candidates, but not for all. To the Ledger's credit they did print my LTE and I hope to see more thorough reporting about all the candidates positions. I didn't mean to bash the Ledger, as I think they usually do a good job, but this article's lack of info set me off!
