In the Feb 14th issue of the Oswego Ledger Sentinel, Democratic and Republican officials offer their theories as to why Democratic turnout has TRIPLED in the county. (The paper does not post its articles online until the next issue is on the newsstand. When the article is posted, I’ll be sure to add the link to this thread.)
Republican Chairman Terry Peshia cites changing demographics, “Ten years ago the rival party just didn’t have enough members to do the things necessary to challenge the GOP.” Peshia also gives a lot of credit to the members of the Democratic Central Committee, “….they’ve had meetings, supported their people, they’ve had mailings, put signs up. All the things that have an influence on an election.” said Peshia.
Keith Wheeler, Chairman of the Kendall County Republican Candidates Support Committee (RCSC) cites strong support for congressional candidate John Laesch for bumping up Democratic numbers. He also acknowledges that County Board District two may now be more Democratic than it is Republican – though he says he hasn’t yet seen the official precinct by precinct breakdown.
It’s noteworthy that neither Republican official treats us as the devil incarnate – and they’re certainly not ignoring us. They’re painting an image of a capable and worthy adversary – but not an enemy. I think this is the way this game should be played - with respect. (Sorry, I'm on the soapbox again)
Tomorrow I’ll start wrestling with those folks again. For today, I gotta say that I’m impressed by the sportsmanship. Maybe we can learn something from these guys. |
