Anyone else see the stroy in the Ledger regarding the County Board and their actions on the veteran’s referendum?  LINK

Anybody have any thoughts...

Obviously we only have the story as our baseline for research.  The Boards' website offers no meeting minutes (surprise).  I'll have more to say in the coming days, but my preliminary research tells me the reasons given at the meeting are pretty weak.

Plus, I'm hoping Jim Birch might weigh in with his thoughts on this...

Reading the Ledger article makes me wonder about Parr and Wykes.....Mr Wykes talked to some friends of his who are beterans and they believe that there is "enough fundng" now....THIS GUY MUST BE STUPID!!!!!

The VA has been underfunded for more than 7 years....the idiots who are running the VA (or at least Nicholson - the former idiot) NEVER realized what impact OEI or OIF would have on the VA. There are wounded soldiers who aren't getting the treatment they need - forget about those who have served and are out (like those left from WW-2).

Veterans groups have been lobbying and fighting for a bill from our United States Congress that would MANDATE fully funding the VA. This has been in the works for more than 6 years and nobody in Congress has been listening. Based on the statements from Ms. Parr and Mr. Wykes, nobody on the Kendall County Board is listening either. This smacks of Hastert BS - he never listened when Veterans' groups were going to him begging for help with this bill. Lt. Governor Quinn has been and continues to be one of the GREATEST VETERANS ADVOCATES in this country. I can't believe these knucklheads on the County Board could even make such stupid statements.

Yes, it's true, this referendum is non-binding. However, it's also true that getting this on the ballot and getting this passed may send a very clear message to those who are supposed to be representing us in Congress that we as Americans will no longer tolerate the SHAMEFUL way our country has treated those who have sacrificed so much for US!! It's time for our county Board members to extracate their heads from the sand and wake up to what's going on in this country. I guess that might be a bit too much to ask considering they don't even seem to be aware of what's going on in the county.....

WHAT A SHAME!

The more I research this, the more mad I get.

Five minutes on Google and I found the sponsors/originators of this drive...

LINK

I realize the County is pretty tech-not-saavy, but good grief.  Ignorance is not an excuse in today's world.   They can cite cost considerations like these people did LINK and we could have an honest discussion, but not ignorance.

And who is this Dixon fellow?  If he is heading up our veteran's resouces in Kendall, we ought to be asking him to why he wouldn't support this.

If you have any ques as to why the VA is not receiving mandatory funding from Congress, just read this LINK and you will understand.

Agreed - the bottom line to this entire situation is to take the VA budget authorization out of the discretionary funding pot and put it into a MANDATORY FUNDING pot. That means, for those on the County Board who need more details, that the VA will be funded no matter what. Right now, our representatives in congress - including HASTERT, have been using the VA as a bargaining chip. This political game is done at the expense of wounded soldiers and their families not to mention those who have served in previous wars and require VA assistance.

Anybody who knows anything about Veteran's issues should know about this one - it's been on the front buner for veterans for YEARS.

Tom I agree completely.  And the icing on the cake?  Tonigth yet another Army General is calling W 'incompetent... LINK

I'm glad when guys like Sanchez come out and call a spade a spade.  But with now over 20 General officers telling America how incompetent this Administration really ... will they listen?  Do they care?

Incompetent treatment of vets...Incompetent administration of the war...it all goes hand in hand.

Sad.

Rob & Tom - Thank you for all the info.  So much for "support the troops".  Just disgraceful.  And yes, no excuse for not being aware of the sponsors!!!

Don Lupei contacted Steve Robertson out of D.C. on Thursday. he sent some information back which I will use in the "citizens to be heard" segment at Tuesday's county board meeting. It should be interesting. jim
