Just a quick congratulations to Linda Holmes on her victory.

LINK

Most impressively, out of 6,270 votes cast, she lost Kendall County by only 252 votes.  But, she carried Kane County and cleaned up in Aurora.

I credit her AWSOME direct mail compaign.  Wintermute had a superior signage count...I know Holmes had TV, maybe Wintermute did too...as well as the advantage of being a Republican seat (formerlly Petka).  Wintermulte also had some direct mail and choice endorsements from labo...but Holmes carried the day.

Congrats to our Democratic State Senator from the 42nd District in Illinois, Linda Holmes.  Maybe she'll come speak to us soon.

You earned it Linda, congrats.

PS...I've take special note in recnetly elections that people like Boyd and Wintermute seems to drown their opponents in signs...big signs, colorful signs, millions of signs...only to lose in the General.  Anyone else have thoughts on this. My previous beleif was that signs made a huge difference.

it wasn't just the direct mail...Linda Holmes actually went out and knocked on dorrs and talked with her constiuents...Wintermule didn't do that - at least she never came into my precint - Linda Holmes did. Also, that fact that Linda Holmes is just a BETTER CANDIDATE had something to do with it.

GO LINDA - I KNOW YOU WORKED VERY HARD FOR THIS - YOU DESERVED IT!

You're right Tom, I think Senator-Elect Holmes and her staff deserve the credit for all of their hard work. She faced a capable, well-financed opponent (who also knocked on a lot of doors) in a traditionally Republican district - and came out on top.

I'd like to point out that the Holmes campaign was primarily positive - only a few negative (but accurate) ads. Ms. Wintermute's campaign seemed almost exclusively negative. One can only hope that future candidates can follow that lead.
