A Chicago Tribune Article today reports that the state Senate voted to move the Illinois primary election to the first Tuesday in February (in 2008, that's Feb 5th). Think it will sure be nice for Illinoisans to have a real voice in choosing their Presidential nominee.
While this has been presented as a way to help Barack Obama in his Presidential bid, I don't especially like that reasoning. You don't change the whole system for one candidate. You do, however want to make Illinois votes relevant. Maybe we can get the same voter turnout in the primary as we do in the general election - since the presidential race won't already be decided for us. |
